I mounted the shutters vertically to keep with the original deck design. I needed to remove five of the balusters and then notch the railing edge to permit the progression of the new balusters up, as support for the four by fours creating the frame. The spacing worked in my favor after figuring how many shutters would best fit into the baluster spacings. Viola!
